Italy is in the top 5 countries that is affected by the Novel Corona Virus and academic activities are suspended in a lot of universities, mine being one of them. We got an email saying that everything is suspended until the 2nd of March which is when my classes start. We will see if they will extend the time but for now I have to get ready for the second semester which will be the toughest one yet.
First semester of my second year was kind of weird because I had to pass my Drawing exam in order to continue as a 2nd year student. This meant that I wouldn’t be able to take the first semester classes of the second year and take the second semester classes after I passed the exam. After two weeks of hard work, I did pass my exam and it made me see that I had what it takes, I just needed to believe in myself and just study as cheesy as that sounds.
Although, I couldn’t enjoy that win because I’ve been so worried about the hard classes I have to take. My cousin Billy gave me great advice about celebrating small victories so that’ll be something I’ll be working on.
I had an OK break, now it’s time to get motivated and get ready to take on the new challenges ahead as our neighbor Kirsten likes to put it. Here are the couple of things I’m planning on doing;
Study for the Building Physics classes I missed
Building Physics is my favourite course by far, I’ve attended all of the lectures until I had to re-do my projects for the Drawing class which were at the same time as BP. I missed around 2 months of lectures. I probably won’t be able to learn everything but I at least need to know enough that I will be able to follow the new lectures. Also, our professor is pretty great and I know he’ll be really helpful with my questions.
Resetting my study environment to change my mindset
I’m thinking having my planner, notebooks and pencils organized on my desk will take me from vacation to studying mode. Most of my challenges are due to my mindset and I found out that having a study mindset helps me achieve my academic goals, which is the one that matters at this moment.
Deep cleaning the apartment & groceries
I’ll do it now so that I don’t have to worry about it during school. Also, Ladi stacked our apartment for “apocalypse” reasons so I think I’m good for a couple of weeks…
I think this is everyone’s favourite part of school. I’m so happy that as an Architect I’ll do this even after I’ll be done with my studies. I honestly don’t need new supplies but, you know, getting a new pen or something could be motivating 🙂
Organizing my school bag
When I was younger this always made me want school to start soon. I think it’s still like that. I’ll pick what pens I want to have in my case, think about snacks, hand sanitisers, apocalypse masks???
Preparing for new classes
As of now, we haven’t received our syllabi yet. I’ll check what I can do on ArchiCAD and SketchUp. There’s also a textbook that I want to get that I think would be helpful with Construction Studio.
These are some of the things I’ll do until my classes start. Hopefully I’ll manage to do the most important ones. Hope you enjoyed it. Stay safe everyone!!
